What We Do

Being a mum is one of the hardest jobs you can do, and us mums need all the support we can get to stay whole and keep a sense of self in amongst the craziness of family life.

Mums That Can provides useful information relevant for women in their local and surrounding areas.

We aim to help you answer all those questions floating around in your head: where is the children's centre? What groups can I visit with my child today? How am I going to fill up my day without the CBeebies repeats? Am I ever going to have a life again?

For mums looking for something to do with their little (and not so little) ones, we have information on local baby groups, mums and tots toddler groups, and activities for older children.

We provide a cost effective web presence for relevant local and national businesses and services (whether they are run by mums or not), and support local women with children setting up or growing their own businesses and finding family-friendly employment.

So click on your local area, take a look at these pages and see how we can help! If your local area isn't here, get in touch and let us know you need us!

Mums That Can… Fundraise

On Saturday 19th May over 50 local Saffron Walden Mum, Dads and Children set about to raise money for The Maggies Centre in Addenbrookes.

If you or someone you know has ever been affected by cancer then you may be aware of the fantastic work they do to support those affected and their families. Their services range from a daily drop in centre for tea and coffee to a wide range of activities/courses for those who visit Maggies.

Each year Mums That Can nominate a yearly charity to support through our fundraising and Maggies was sure to be on our list due to the amazing support they gave to members of our Saffron Walden Brunch Group.

Our target for this years fundraising is £1500 by the end of 2018 and we started off our campaign with a 3k charity walk around Rowney Woods followed by a Royal Tea Party supported by Pinny’s Pop Up Tea Room.

The day brought sunshine and high spirits as 50 members of the Saffron Walden community joined together to walk 3k around Rowney Woods with their children, dogs and partners.
It was muddy is some areas with the occasional puddle jumping but the day brought glorious sunshine and spirits were high.

Children ran ahead while parents enjoyed the scenery, dogs glided in and out the tall forestry and the walk was not far from perfect.

At the end of the walk, we congratulated ourselves on our success and wondered towards Carver Barracks where we were greeted by the gorgeous 1940’s styled Pinny’s Pop Up Tea Room ladies. We were offered handmade Pimms or Elderflower and given our certificates and bracelets. What a great atmosphere!! The venue was filled with royal bunting, flowers, flags and homemade cakes…. What more could we ask for!! Within half an hour the hall filled to the brim for the Royal Wedding and silence filled the hall for the special event…. We all felt honoured to share such a memorable moment in history and for such a great cause too! Pinny’s well and truly pulled it out the bag with their foot tapping swing music, 40’s ettire and mouth watering homemade cakes and drinks!!

Our first fundraising event for 2018 supporting The Maggies Centre Addenbrookes brought in a fantastic £500 towards our £1500 target and we would like to thank all those who attended and supported our event!!

If you have not yet donated and would like to get involved; On 8th July two of our brunch mums will be joining Jack at The Maggies Centre to jump tandem from and airplane to raise more money towards our target… we would appreciate your sponsorship!!
