What We Do

Being a mum is one of the hardest jobs you can do, and us mums need all the support we can get to stay whole and keep a sense of self in amongst the craziness of family life.

Mums That Can provides useful information relevant for women in their local and surrounding areas.

We aim to help you answer all those questions floating around in your head: where is the children's centre? What groups can I visit with my child today? How am I going to fill up my day without the CBeebies repeats? Am I ever going to have a life again?

For mums looking for something to do with their little (and not so little) ones, we have information on local baby groups, mums and tots toddler groups, and activities for older children.

We provide a cost effective web presence for relevant local and national businesses and services (whether they are run by mums or not), and support local women with children setting up or growing their own businesses and finding family-friendly employment.

So click on your local area, take a look at these pages and see how we can help! If your local area isn't here, get in touch and let us know you need us!

Welcome to Bishop’s Stortford College
Bishop’s Stortford College is a co-educational independent day and boarding school for pupils aged 4 to 18. Large enough to provide an exceptional range of opportunities, yet small enough for students to be known and valued.

Pre-Prep (4-7 Years)

A child’s early experience of school is vital for developing a positive and confident attitude to learning, to work and to other people. Bishop’s Stortford College Pre-Prep gives our pupils a happy, secure and purposeful start in an exciting and caring learning environment. The beautiful parkland setting surrounding the Pre-Prep is an integral part of being a place which inspires learning, creativity, imagination, exploration and a sense of wonder.

As part of a wider community, the Pre-Prep benefits from access to the magnificent College facilities and specialist teachers for many subjects. There is also enormous scope for bringing pupils of different ages together to learn from each other and enjoy each other’s company through shared projects and activities.

During their three years in Pre-Prep, our girls and boys are well-grounded in the basic skills, encouraging them to become independent learners and creative thinkers, right from the start.

For Pre-Prep admissions, please contact ppadmissions@bishopsstortfordcollege.org.

Prep School (7-13 Years)

Bishop’s Stortford College Prep School offers an outstanding all-round education for 7 to 13 year olds, with a blend of day pupils, full and weekly boarders and pupils who board a few nights a week (flexi-boarders). Our aim is to develop happy, confident and well-motivated children who enjoy coming to school and who enjoy learning.

We want all our pupils to have a good, positive attitude to work, to life and to other people and we encourage them to have an awareness of the needs of all whom they meet. We aim for strong academic results, yet plenty of time is devoted to sport, music, drama, art and many other activities, with high standards achieved in all areas.

For Prep School admissions, please contact psadmissions@bishopsstortfordcollege.org.

Senior School (13 -16 Years)

Bishop’s Stortford College Senior School is, in the words of ISI inspectors, ‘an exceptional learning community’. It is a place where children, as they enter their teenage years, have wonderful opportunities to become confident, well-rounded and interesting young men and women who take with them the qualifications, skills, adaptability and respect for others to thrive in the world beyond school.

We aim for all round growth – academically, morally, spiritually, athletically and creatively. Every pupil is encouraged, taught and challenged to fulfil his or her true potential by being immersed in an environment of discovery and wholehearted participation.

For Senior School admissions, please contact admissions@bishopsstortfordcollege.org.

Sixth Form (16-18 Years)

Diversity of talent and intellectual curiosity, combined with confidence and independence are the hallmarks of the Bishop’s Stortford College Sixth Former.

The Sixth Form offers a fresh start and new opportunities for all students, both our own Upper Fifth pupils and those joining from other schools in the UK or overseas. Sixth Formers find themselves in a new and rapidly developing environment, one which challenges and stimulates in equal measure. Such is the powerful sense of community that exists in the Sixth Form, everyone (whether new to the school or an old hand) settles in quickly.

Students are challenged academically and encouraged to discover their potential in areas outside the classroom as well developing skills and interests that will serve them well not just at school, but at University and in later life. Our hope for our students is that their time here is one that they look back on with pride and appreciation; pride in their individual and collective achievements, and an appreciation of the friendships that last for life.
